With 25.5% reach among adult iOS and Android app users, Instagram ranked as the 10th-largest smartphone application during the 3-month period ending in October 2013, according to the latest smartphone audience figures from comScore. Instagram enjoyed wider reach than Twitter’s app (21.8%) for the period, though leaps and bounds ahead of both was Facebook’s mobile app, which reached 75.7% of adult iOS and Android app users. The closest competitor to Facebook in the smartphone app popularity contest is Google Play, with its 54% reach a fair distance back.
Google Search (52.2% reach) follows, with Pandora Radio (48.2%) and YouTube (48%) rounding out the top 5 apps by reach.
Granted, the figures are for adult iOS and Android users only – but those 2 platforms combined represent more than 90% of the smartphone market.
