CNN debuted live hologram technology during their election night coverage. While very cool stuff, it felt a bit gratuitous, like they were doing it simply because they could.
I don’t doubt this technology will be widely adopted but it doesn’t seem as much of a breakthrough as it might at first glance. I don’t know how much more insight you can garner from the use of holograms. It’s sorta like having a journalist reporting live from the scene!! of a crime when the visual is simply a reporter standing in front of yellow police tape.
I could see holograms providing more insight during interviews with uncooperative or uncomfortable subjects like you might see on 60 Minutes where you can pick up clues from a person’s body language.
But if you really want to impress me, anyway, put those holograms into my living room.
