Facebook was the #4 source of visits to News and Media sites last week, after Google, Yahoo! and msn (see table below). News and Media is the #11 downstream industry after Facebook, receiving 3.69% of the social networking site’s traffic.
For journos: Facebook is increasingly where people are their news. You need to be there or you’ll be out of sight, out of mind.
For communicators: The news shared through Facebook is far more valuable than news shared elsewhere online because it is usually coming from a trusted source, a Facebook friend, and will therefore likely garner greater attention. Client media placements need to be shared in Facebook.
