Google Places drives 33% of visits to local business websites.
Google Organic drives 25% of visits to local business websites.
Combined, that accounts for 58% of website traffic to local business websites.
Yahoo & Bing account for less than 7% of website traffic to local business websites.
THOUGHT: The stats are derived from a survey of 648 professional Local SEO providers who answered questions relating to their observations and beliefs about the sources of traffic to their local clients’ websites.
Considering how often you see Google Maps show up in your normal search results. A Google Places page is attached to each of those individual business listings along side the map as is the URL of the website that accompanies that listing.
Google is smart enough to figure out when you’re looking for local information. If you’re logged into your Google account, it knows your location from a variety of factors that could include the zip code you gave Google when you registered with the side, the IP address used when you conducted your search, the geocordinates of your GPS-enabled Android phone or tablet, past search behavior and website visits, or you could have simply told Google with a geographic search phase such as Minneapolis Pizza Restaurant.
Unfortunately, local search is not s topic that typically crosses retailers minds, particularly when it comes to optimizing their local listings like Google Places. As a result, their business listings typically only get visibility when people search for their business name.
