Roughly half of US and Canadian adults use monthly OTT subscription services and more than one-quarter use pay-per-rental services, per the Digitalsmiths survey. Convenience emerges as the top-cited reason for doing so, per the survey, with this supported by earlier research on the same topic. Other key reasons given for using OTT services include their low cost, selection, and the ability to watch certain TV shows and whole seasons. Of note, fewer than one-quarter use OTT services due to their ability to watch on mobile devices, and only about 1 in 7 do so because they don’t have cable or satellite services.
