When a November 2014 study from Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Mobile Marketing Center of Excellence and Precision Market Insights from Verizon, conducted by Harris Poll, asked US smartphone users what they expected to do between December 25 and 31 this year, respondents were most likely to plan on finding things to do with friends and family, cited by 58%—something that locations such as movie theaters and restaurants should take note of.

Retailers better be on their game, too, as 47% of respondents said they would shop post-holiday and look for New Year’s sales. And they’re likely picking up items for themselves, based on August 2014 polling by PricewaterhouseCoopers, which found that US internet users planned to do just 8% of their holiday shopping after the actual holidays.
