Smartphone penetration averaged 69.6% of the US mobile market during the 3-month period ending in April 2014, up more than 10 points from the year-earlier period (58%). Apple remained the leading manufacturer (41.4% market share), ahead of Samsung (27.7%) during the latest reporting period, with the gap between the two narrowing by 1.2% points from the January 3-month average. During that span, Android (52.5%) widened its lead over Apple among smartphone platforms, picking up 0.8% points in market share while Apple dipped slightly.
