Deconstructing A TED Talk

This is brilliant.

Comedian Will Stephen‘s TEDx Talk at TEDxNewYork is a satirical take on TED presentations themselves in particular and also presentations in general. Comedy, especially parody and satire, often serves as a cheat sheet for understanding how something works.

I tell young people thinking of a career in media or public relations that they could do worse by way of education by watching Comedy Central’s The Daily Show or John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight. By lampooning the daily news and its conventions and techniques, such satire highlights how the medium works.

The same dynamic is at work with Stephen’s TEDx Talk. Set aside six minutes to watch this clip and you’ll have a much better take on how many presentations are constructed.
