National Football League (NFL) fans have added mobile devices to their game day routines. According to September 2014 polling by RadiumOne, a whopping 71% of US football fans ages 18 to 74 engaged with their mobile devices on game days (Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays)—with more than half doing so five or more times.
So what are these mobile-owning game watchers doing when they turn to their smaller screens? Social-related activities were the most common. Fully 54% of respondents said they used their mobile devices to text while viewing NFL games, and 41% logged on to social media. One-third of football fans checked email. On the other hand, mobile fans weren’t all that inspired to make purchases as a result of what they were watching: Just 7% bought NFL merchandise through a mobile device. Read the rest at eMarketer.
