comScore MobiLens data from September 2013 indicated that of the 20 million mobile gamers in the UK, almost half were female. Given the current smartphone penetration rates—that is, skewed slightly male—this indicates that female mobile gamers in the UK are very much on a par with their male counterparts. One noteworthy pattern of use saw more older females partaking in mobile gaming. Indeed, the largest gap between penetration rates across genders was in the 55-and-over age group, at 7.7% vs. 6.6% in favor of females.

Tablets’ prominence among female age groups is likely playing a part in this. UK women are far more apt than men to play games on tablets.
