More smartphone owners this year claim to have some experience with a variety of mobile transaction types, according to results from a Harris Interactive survey. Some 46% say they have either used or seen someone firsthand use a mobile application that allows the redemption of offers at a retailer or restaurant, up from 40% in last year’s survey. Similarly, more have experience (either themselves or seeing someone firsthand) processing a payment by tapping a smartphone, rather than using cash or a payment card (23% vs. 18%). But fewer envision mobile payments replacing card or cash transactions anytime soon.
This year, just 33% of smartphone users responding to the survey believe that smartphone payments will replace payment card transactions in less than 5 years, down from 38% who felt that way last year. And, the proportion believing that mobile payments will never replace payment card transactions increased from 24% to 28%. Read the rest at MarketingCharts.
