eCommerce Sites' Traffic Referral Sources [CHART]

Chart - eCommerce Sites' Traffic Referral Sources

Social media may be getting all the buzz these days, but search engines still refer far more traffic to e-commerce sites, according to a new report from Monetate. Search drove 29.67% of inbound referral traffic to the analyzed sites in Q1 2012, up from 27.15% a year earlier. And although social’s share of inbound traffic jumped 56%, it still accounted for a fractional 2.15%. Email was the only source to see a year-over-year decline in inbound traffic share, from 7.83% in Q1 2011 to 6.58% in Q1 2012. At the same time, email’s share in Q1 2012 was an improvement from 5.82% a quarter earlier.

The Monetate study is based on a random sample of more than 100 million online shopping experiences using “same store” data across each calendar quarter. Read the rest at MarketingCharts.
