31% of the top 200 Fortune 500 brands’ Facebook pagesranked in the first two pages of Google results for searches for that brand’s name.

Just a third ranked the same for Twitter.

THOUGHT: Keep in mind that Google ranks search results by sets of 10 links per page, so that means that these brands did not show up within the first two pages of search results. Very few people click on to the second page of search results, let alone the third. Out of sight, out of mind.

While any brand should have the top link for their website, assuming the domain name includes the keywords for the brand name within it, it can be a bit more difficult to gain top ranking for the brand’s social media pages…but usually not that difficult.

It’s decidedly worth the effort to try and gain visibility for your social media properties when you consider the ease with which customers and potential customers can create a lasting relationship with you by simply Liking or following your page. The equivalent on a website is usually filling out a form of some kind: A “contact us” or an email newsletter form, for example. That’s a much greater investment that takes much more time and effort to complete.

Make it easy for people to create relationships with you.
