THOUGHT: It’s a little odd to think that 35% of small businesses are not using even a website as a marketing tactic, but there you have it. There are a lot of small businesses out there; I mean really small businesses, like sole-practitioner small.
Plumbing and landscaping and painting skills typically aren’t accompanied with online communication savvy. These categories of businesses have a lot to gain from a little search engine optimization (SEO) yet relatively few of them are availing themselves of the tactic.
Not surprising, though, given that search optimization can be a little hard to get your head around and requires some technical knowledge in order to implement.
Contrast SEO to Facebook and it’s easy to understand why social networks would become such a popular tactic even if SEO is arguably a more efficient and cost-effective tactic for acquiring new business. Facebook requires no technical expertise to use and is pretty easy to learn.
