Total unique US visitors to major e-mail sites like Yahoo and Hotmail peaked in November 2009 and have since slid 6%.
Visits among 12- to 17-year-olds fell approximately 18%.
Gmail is the only major email service that gained visitors, up 10% from a year ago
THOUGHT: This is fairly unsurprising except that Gmail is an exception. My guess is that is largely a result of the Android operating system baking Gmail into the core of smart phones. Google also integrates chat and voice calling into it’s Gmail product.
