The Purple One performed some serious copyright overreach recently when he had YouTube remove a fan-recorded video of his perfomance of Radiohead’s song Creep at Coachella, the AP reports.
Fans looking for the video at YouTube weren’t the only one’s pissed off to find the clip blocked; Radiohead was too. AP quotes Radiohead’s Thom Yorke saying: "Really? He’s blocked it? Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment…Well, tell him to unblock it. It’s our … song."
It’s a big deal when Minnesota’s favorite musical son does a cover because his take on a given piece of music is, more often than not, exquisite.
The music industry, Prince obviously included, is just so clueless when it comes to the Internet. There’s every indication that they are going to be dragged kicking and screaming into reality for as long as it takes.
