Blog Action Day – World Poverty

I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I just learned about today. According to the Blog Action Day web site, it "is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion."

This year the subject is poverty.

It just so happens that my employer, , has a client who mission it is to help eradicate global poverty.

That client is . Opportunity International is a nonprofit that is one of the larges and most well-respected microfinance organizations. They’ve been providing loans, business training, and financial services to entrepreneurs in some of the most impoverished corners of the globe for the past 37 years.

I have been intrigued with the idea of microfinance since the early nineties so it has been fulfilling to work with such a fascinating client.

Earlier this year, Opportunity International launched , their microlending/social networking site. Through it, you can give loans to deserving entreprenuers for as little as $25.

Amazingly, more than 98% of the loans are paid back.

Making a microloan is an incredibly efficient step you can take to help end world poverty.
